Pacific Northwest CSTA Leadership Summit

Join us for the inaugural Pacific Northwest CSTA Leadership summit!

Chapters often want to encourage new people to get involved in volunteer and leadership roles. Some folks are reluctant to step into leadership positions because they have limited experience and the unknown set of expectations seems daunting and hard to learn, particularly when they are often very busy with other parts of their lives and careers.

We hope to mitigate this reluctance by offering potential leaders the opportunity to attend a one day regional leadership summit. There they will learn more about how to effectively be a board participant, the expectations of the role, and experience the community we try to form as part of the CSTA Chapter leadership.

When: June 20, 2026, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Where: East Valley High (1900 Beaudry Road Yakima, WA)

Agenda:
8:30-9:00 – Arrive, Coffee and Snacks
9:00-9:50 – Welcome and Keynote
9:50-10:00 – Break
10:00-10:55 – Session 1: Running and Effective Non Profit
10:55-11:05 – Break
11:05-12:00 – Session 2: Supporting and Growing Your Chapter
12:00-1:00 – Lunch and Learn: Chapter Share outs and Semi – Structured postmortem from the year
1:00-3:00 – Chapter work time (filling out CSTA Goals and Planning for 2027-28)
3:00-4:00 – Closing share out (takeaways and novel ideas from the event)

Note: We chose Yakima as a “relatively central location” so people could potentially drive to the venue the morning of the event and home that evening. We are also exploring hotel options for the night of 6/19. We do have limited funds available to help offset the cost of travel to this event to encourage participation.

Register through the Google form by one of these two deadlines:

  • June 1st to be considered for travel grant and/or carpooling
  • June 18th if you are are self funding your travel

2026 CS Summer Equity Symposium

Exploring Computer Science (ECS) is a research-based, equity-centered high school course designed specifically for these conditions. Rather than assuming prior experience or narrow student interest, ECS focuses on how computer science is taught as much as what is taught—using instructional practices that broaden participation, support diverse learners, and make CS accessible to students who may not otherwise enroll.

Educators, counselors, and administrators are invited to explore these strategies at the 2026 CS Summer Equity Symposium. There is no cost to attend and teachers who attend the ECS workshop receive a stipend.

The symposium offers a range of workshops, including:

  • Support for high school teachers new to teaching computer science
  • Sessions designed specifically for counselors and administrators
  • Computational thinking workshops for elementary educators

When: July 27 - 31, 2026

Where: Oregon State University-Cascades, Bend, Oregon
