Hello CSTA Washington Members and other interested parties!
On April 22, 2025, the Chapter Development Committee submitted their final recommendations which were then formally presented to the interim CSTA Washington board on May 7. We encourage all of our members and other interested parties to read it, and let us know if you have questions.
Some highlights of their recommendation include:
-
Expanding the CSTA Washington board to nine elected positions and one non-voting "past president" position.
-
Four of these positions are regional vice-presidents, each who will represent 2 or 3 Educational Service Districts (ESDs).
-
Regional vice presidents are elected locally (ie, they are voted for by the members of the ESDs they represent) and the remaining five board positions are elected statewide
-
Regional vice-presidents will also work with two or three volunteer ESD reps to coordinate local events, news, and communications
-
Board positions are two year terms, with four or five positions alternating elections every year. All nine positions will be elected this year, since it's a new board, so some of these positions will be one year positions this election cycle only
We are actively looking for members to join us for our inaugural board from around the state, either as one of the nine elected positions or as regional ESD volunteer reps. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to serve. We have experienced board members and mentors ready to help you learn the ropes with us!
Finally, a huge debt of gratitude goes to our CDC members Trish Henry, Tracey Sconyers, Denise Thompson, David Stiner, Maya A. Donnelly, Amy Ko (and with a little guidance from me :)). The CDC group put in many hours and much effort to craft this document, to advise the board, and to help us transition to a statewide chapter.
We will be following up this email with one announcing our board nominations and elections - so please consider volunteering to help make CSTA Washington truly a place to "Provide community, professional development, support, and advocacy for computer science teachers throughout Washington and help them provide equitable, high-quality CS education to all K-12 Washington state students."
Sincerely,
Lauren Bricker
CSTA Washington interim board President
