PSCSTA (Puget Sound Computer Science Teachers Association) – which serves all of Washington's computer science teachers - is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate student in a School of Education to join us as a Student Media Manager from Jun 2023 to May 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Promoting computer science as an additional endorsement to undergrad teaching students
- Helping PSCSTA communicate the resources, services, and opportunities that it provides to CS teachers statewide.
The role is completely virtual and is open to education students statewide. The candidate should expect to spend approximately 10 hours a month from Jun 2023 to May 2024 on the above tasks.
In addition, the successful candidate will prepare to take the West NES Computer Science exam to obtain a computer science endorsement for Washington State through a scholarship to the summer session of the online, self-paced CSTA+ WeTeach_CS Foundations of Computer Science course sponsored in part by PSCSTA.
Qualifications:
- Must be an undergrad student in a School of Education – preferably a junior - with an interest in teaching computer science. Candidates expecting to get their teaching certificates in other subject areas (e.g., Math, Science, English, CTE) are encouraged to apply.
- At least one college-level computer science course with 40 hours of coding experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and digital communication tools.
- Passion for promoting computer science education and encouraging others to teach computer science.
Compensation:
- $185 a month stipend for 12 months
- Scholarship for Summer Session of CSTA+ WeTeach_CS Computer Science Endorsement Exam Prep Course for Washington state + exam fee
