I am excited to share this invitation to participate in a new research study led by
foundry10
that focuses on developing social and emotional learning (SEL) resources for secondary computer science (CS) classrooms (IRB study No. 2026.001).
Earlier this year, we conducted the
Coding with Care
study. The study highlighted the many ways CS teachers support students' collaboration, persistence, and confidence, but also revealed a need for more CS-specific guidance for integrating and strengthening SEL. Building on these findings, we invite CS teachers to partner with us in a co-design process to collaboratively develop practical, classroom-ready resources that support SEL in CS learning environments.
What Participation Involves
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to:
Join three virtual co-design workshops (90 minutes each on Zoom) with other CS educators
Try out 1-2 prototype resources in your classroom and/or gather additional feedback from a colleague on your prototype resource outside of the workshops
Complete two 10-minute questionnaires (before and at the end of the workshop series)
Participate in a 45-minute exit interview
All activities will largely be completed outside of regular teaching hours.
Eligibility
We are seeking teachers currently teaching CS to grades 6-12 in Washington state, including those teaching
Introduction to CS, Advanced Placement (AP) CS Principles, AP CSA,
or other programming and computing classes.
Compensation
Participants will receive up to $400 for participating in the study (or a pro-rated amount if unable to complete all research activities) in the form of a digital gift card (e.g., Amazon, Tango).
How to Sign Up
If you are interested, please complete the brief interest form by
this upcoming Sunday, March 8, 2026

If selected to participate, a team member will contact you to gather consent and information for the study, including availability for the workshops.
Why Participate?
This is an opportunity to:
Learn about SEL and reflect on your instruction
Collaborate with peers who share similar instructional challenges and goals
Contribute to creating practical resources that meet common instructional challenges and goals in CS classrooms
More information about the study is attached in the flyer below. If you have any questions, please contact the research lead, Helen Lee, at
helen@foundry10.org
. Thank you for the important work you do and for considering participating in this study!
