Dear Computer Science Teacher:
My name is Ricardo Poza, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, College of Education. As part of my research, I am investigating factors that may motivate middle school students to consider or pursue specific careers. Specifically, I am exploring student interest in computer science (CS) and whether certain curricular elements support or encourage girls and boys to consider careers in CS.
Through this study, I hope to gain insights into what motivates students to explore CS careers, or what barriers may discourage them from doing so. Your participation will help us better understand how middle schools support students as they begin thinking about what they want to be when they grow up.
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete a consent form and a brief questionnaire consisting of 19 questions. As a token of appreciation for your participation, you will receive a $5 Dunkin' gift card. All responses will remain confidential and will be used to establish a baseline of computer science offerings and career counseling at middle schools in Massachusetts.

Please feel free to share the link with other CS instructors in the state, as well as STEM teachers, school counselors, and administrators.
Thank you for your consideration. Your insights are invaluable to this research.
