  • 1.  POST GDC Introductions

    Posted 04-01-2024 12:48

    Hey all,

Hopefully a few of you are on Spring Break, We actually had ours last week, so I went straight from GDC to Spring break.

We added a few people to the community from GDC and the idea for this board started at GDC, so I kind of view this time period as a reset.

We haven't had an "introductions" thread in a while so I think this is a good time to bring one back. Introduce yourselves and your program (classes, school sites, etc)

I am Brian Bautista, I am a CTE Game Development teacher at West Park High School in Roseville, CA. I have been teaching for 10 years, 8 of them in Game Development.

I have a 3 course CTE pathway that is made up of three classes.

    1. A tabletop based intro to Game Design course.
    2. A 2D and 3D digital Art and Animation class built around making game assets.
    3. A Unity based digital Game Development course.

Big goal for the end of the year is getting my capstone kids across the finish line with a Game Prototype at this year's Capital Creative Showcase on April 20th and a District CTE showcase at the end of May.

    Thanks Brian!

David Malpica, currently a CTE AME/ICT Teacher at TIDE Academy in Menlo Park. I have taught computer science and game design/development for the last five years. In 2017 I worked at an ed-tech startup LightUp on Hololab AR, a subscription based science box for kids with Augmented Reality mini games and activities. That is when I started using Unity seriously. Before that I worked in 3D Animation a few years before grad school, and then at a middle school digital fabrication lab.

    Hello everyone,

Wes Jeffries, I have been teaching for 17 years, and have been teaching game design for 9. I have a 3 course pathway:

    1. Game Design Principles: board/card game mechanics and prototyping, traditional pencil/paper art, and some 3D art.
    2. Digital Game Design: video game prototyping in Unity, basic C# programming.
    3. Video Game Development: more advanced video game programming, projects for SkillsUSA competition, business and marketing of games.

This year was my first year doing SkillsUSA and we had some success this year so I hope to carry this momentum into next year.
