This is the course proposal for my introductory game design course.
It is meant to serve as a technology-free introduction to the fundamentals of Game Design. It has gone through about a decade of iteration under several names and is presently just called "Game Development 1" in my district per district policy.It is written with respect to the California CTE Arts, Media and Entertainment standards and has been approved in 4 districts.It utilizes Challenges for Game Designers by Romero and Schreiber, a book I will continue to use until I cannot get copies of it anymore.
