Our group discussed that we definitely see students (of all ages) go beyond just understanding because they see how what they are learning connects to the broader world and opens their mind to possibilities for their future. Having physical interactions with CS concepts helps connect to that. We can assess that those things are happening when we see students turning around and teaching each other (which shows an increase in confidence, intrinsic motivation, and learning becoming part of their being). We can also assess that it's happening when we see students embracing the concept of "failing forward" and that mistakes are part of the learning process.

Does using "make concrete" and "get hands on" strategies impact student learning beyond comprehension and what are some ways to assess that?
