    Dear friends,

CSTA Greater Boston members met at Google last week (thank you for coming!!) and we had great conversations about how to work together.

We talked about different types of visits you can book with them:

The link to the Google visit form is:
We learned about a new AI tool - The shiffbot.  If you know Coding Train - it's him!  Using p5.js :o)  It helps teach and doesn't give the answers. There is a wait list for this right now, but will be available for all soon.  The extension link is:
And if you have not used it before, the teachable machine link is:   (you can use it to teach Machine Learning.)

The GB leaders also spoke with Microsoft the other day.

They have a day program they would like to share and have you come experience at the NERD center in Cambridge.  Please reach out to them directly to book this!

    About NERD Coding Camp:

The Coding Camp program at the NERD Microsoft Office is a dedicated group of Microsoft volunteers from the Cambridge Kendall Square Microsoft Office who organize coding camps for local students. The coding camp is typically a day-long program aimed at introducing middle or high school students to the fascinating world of coding. Our curriculum is tailored for beginners, making it a perfect opportunity to ignite a passion for technology in young learners. We seek local student groups to partner with us to create a memorable day camp experience.

    Key Camp Details:

Date: Spring/Summer 2024 (flexible based on school calendars)

    Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM (flexible)

    Location: NERD site in Cambridge

Curriculum: Engaging lessons using MakeCode block coding, delivered by Microsoft engineers.

Inspiration: A panel discussion with Microsoft engineers, sharing their insights and journey, discussions on AI and the world of LLMs.

Creativity: Hands-on time for students to design and build their own MakeCode games.

Capacity: We can accommodate up to 20-30 students.

Contacts: Allison (abasore@microsoft.com), Natalie (natalieisak@microsoft.com), and Rachel Esterkes (resterkes@microsoft.com)

    Why Partner with Us:

By collaborating with us for the NERD Coding Camp, your organization can offer a unique and enriching experience to students, allowing them to explore the exciting world of coding in a real-world setting. This initiative aligns perfectly with our shared mission to inspire the next generation of tech-savvy innovators.

We spoke with both Microsoft and Google about field trips, judging projects, mentoring, internships, Technovation and the CSTA New England conference.  They do have people that would like to be more involved with education, and we will work with them on these aspects.

We are excited to be building more partnerships each year. If you have any partnerships that you would like to share, please do!  We are finding more organizations that would like to work with both teachers and students in their development processes and their outreach.

    Hope to see you soon,

    CSTA Greater Boston Leaders

https://youtu.be/HmStJQzclHc To those who attended the CSTA meetup at Google, I said I would send along an entertaining video about the history of color names in CSS (2014). (I am now not sure whether the named rooms we saw at the Google Cambridge office exactly correspond to these names.) This video chronicles the history of the rgb.txt file, which was the first mapping of RGB color numbers to names.
https://dcpetty.github.io/obsidian/colors/ are some notes about colors adapted from the documentation page for a p5.js project (https://psb-david-petty.github.io/p5js/2023-2024-bhs-schedule/doc.html).
