EngageCSEdu (http://www.engage-csedu.org) publishes high-quality, engaging, classroom-tested Open Educational Resources (OER's) for computer science education. We seek novel contributions for a special issue on Responsible Computing. Resources must be accessible and of interest to teachers at either a secondary or post-secondary level and have been implemented in an authentic educational environment.

Special Issue Focus - Recent efforts such as the National Academies of Sciences (NAS) report on responsible computing research (2022) and the Mozilla Foundation's Responsible Computer Science Challenge (2021) underscore the pressing need to improve the educational commitment to ethics in computer and data science education. The focus of this special issue complements such work to develop more diverse, equitable, and culturally relevant approaches to teaching and embedding responsible computing into computer and data science education in secondary (gr. 9-12) and post-secondary settings (undergraduate and early graduate).

Scope of Submissions - We seek innovative, engaging, and equitable instructional materials for teaching and embedding responsible computing curricula alongside technical CS content. We are interested in reviewing work appropriate for secondary and post-secondary contexts spanning a variety of instructional contexts including programming assignments, guided discussion groups, role-playing, reading and reflection assignments, policy analysis, creative media, collaborative decision-making, etc. The submissions should reflect current and emerging responsible computing topics including but not limited to: Human-centered computing design principles; algorithmic fairness, accountability, and transparency; dataset provenance, validation, and bias auditing; data privacy protection techniques; sustainability considerations in computing; social risk and security risk assessments; designing beneficial socio-technical systems, etc

    Important Dates:
    • October 31, 2022 - Initial submissions due (synopsis, metadata, and student-facing materials)
    • November 21, 2022 - Preliminary feedback from editors
    • January 31, 2022 - Full submissions due (full paper + student-facing materials)
