To share with your chapter's members (and for you too!):

Whether you are a K–12 computer science teacher or advocate, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved with and give back to CSTA! New opportunities will be posted throughout the year, so keep an eye out in our communications for more information.

Volunteer opportunities are available to current CSTA members only. If you're not a CSTA member, we encourage you to join today!

    Volunteer Your Time With CSTA

CSTA is proud to be an organization that thrives on volunteer support. Help give back and shape the future of CSTA by volunteering for one or more of the following:

    • Committees: While every committee is a little different, committee members participate in one virtual meeting a month and approximately 2 hours of additional work outside of those meetings, for a total of 2-5 hours per month. Committee terms are two years. Most committees will select members in the fall, but others (e.g., conference committee) have a different timeline. Open committees include:

      • Awards Committee Member: Support the annual development and implementation of CSTA and CS awards.

      • Chapter Leadership Committee Member: Plan and facilitate professional learning opportunities for other CSTA chapter leaders. Must be an active chapter leader to apply.

      • CS Honor Society (CSHS) Committee Member: Shape the CSHS program and help plan and facilitate support to CSHS advisors.

      • CSTA Conference Committee: Be a part of the team that makes CSTA's conference great! This group of volunteers selects the conference program and drives the vision for the onsite attendee experience. Will accept applications in spring 2022.

      • CSTA Editorial Board Member: Shape the editorial calendar for The Voice and source and write content.

      • Membership Committee Member: Help evaluate current benefits offered and determine a plan for strategizing different CSTA benefits to further membership growth.

      • Policy: Vet, develop, and/or adopt a set of endorsed equitable policy recommendations. Develop a toolkit to support CSTA chapter leaders and members on effectively advocating for these policy recommendations at the state level.

      • Professional Development Committee Member: Vet PD opportunities and make easy for teachers to find quality programs that meet their needs. Research and report on trends among current opportunities, and provide guidance for and community among PD providers.

      • Reflective Teachers: Develop use or case studies to demonstrate effective and equitable teaching practice and teacher self-reflection in written and video format.

      • Standards Alignment Committee Member: Help evaluate curriculum offerings and alignment to the CSTA K-12 Computer Science Standards.

    • CSTA Community Ambassador: A team of passionate CSTA members selected to enrich our virtual community spaces. These educators are responsible for co-facilitating discussions and responding to community members. Community Ambassadors will participate in one virtual meeting a month and engage with specific communities approximately 1-2 hours a month for a total of 2-3 hours per month.

    • Conference, Awards, and Equity Fellowship Reviewers: We rely on many volunteers to review conference session proposals, equity fellowship applications, and awards applications. This is a shorter, one-time commitment of 2-3 hours at several points throughout the year.

    • CSTA's Voice Author: Write an original, 500- to 1,500-word post to share with the CSTA community. We welcome submissions on any topics relevant to K-12 CS teachers and especially love posts written directly by teachers. See submission guidelines. This is a short, one-time commitment.

Every committee is a little different; in general, committee members participate in one virtual meeting a month and approximately 2 hours of additional work outside of those meetings. Award reviewers should expect to commit 2-3 hours of work at several points throughout the year.

    Share Your Voice

Grow CSTA's Voice by sharing yours! We're looking for members to share their stories both as authors and resources for interviews. Read more about how to submit to CSTA's The Voice and to be added to our source pool.

Start a Computer Science Honor Society (CSHS)

Join part of a growing honor society of over 150 societies in North America! Help support equity in computer science, and encourage secondary students' enthusiasm for computer science, honor academic excellence, and promote service by starting a CS honor society in your school! Apply to become an advisor, and help grow support for CS at your school by launching service projects and fostering mentoring amongst students. CSHS's also are eligible for grants as available, and recognition opportunities at CSTA. Learn more about starting a society.

    For CS Advocates

    Institutional Partnerships

These 1-year partnerships are a great way for partners to pledge their continued support, provide high-quality resources, and connect with our membership through various publications and program platforms. Visit our Institutional Partnerships page to learn about the partnership levels and get started. If you have more questions, please contact partners@csteachers.org and write CSTA Institutional Partnerships in the subject line.

Donate to the CSTA Annual Fund

Each year, CSTA supports each teacher with $200 in valuable resources to make teaching computer science a little easier. For just under $10 per month, your support helps us bring 10 teachers to a CSTA Summit. Visit our donation page to make a generous contribution to the Annual Fund. If you are interested in setting up a matching gift opportunity, please contact Daniel.Rosenstein@csteachers.org.
