*Edited to add update  about "Community Settings"

    Hello again Chapter Leaders,

Below we have shared some important event updates for the transition and  a simple how to guide for setting up a simple event in Higher Logic on your new sites. Please note that we will add more types of how to guides for different event types in the coming weeks. We wanted to share this first one to help you get started once we move into March.

Also we will also release a how to guide for emailing members as we get into March as the feature is not yet enabled.

*Here:  HOW TO - SIMPLE EVENT SETUP (Please note "community settings" also not live until we connect the community to the website in March)

    Ashley

*Also important things to note about Events during the transition from MemberNova to Higher Logic

    • Please do not put any additional events into MemberNova starting today. Any future events should be put into Higher Logic moving forward.
    • If there are events in MemberNova occurring from March 1 - 10, 2025, MemberNova registration will remain open for chapter members.
    • Any chapter event that is already in MemberNova scheduled from March 15 - April 26, 2025 will be set up in Higher Logic on behalf of the chapter. Anyone who is already registered for those events, will be moved over to Higher Logic as well.
    • Any events in Member Nova that are scheduled to take place on or after April 27, 2025 will need to be built in Higher Logic and registration will need to be exported by the chapter from MemberNova by March 31.
      • If there are any registrations for those events, please reach out to chapters@csteachers.org after the event has been set up in Higher Logic and CSTA will import those registrations for you.

If you have any questions or need support, please reach out to us at chapters@csteachers.org.

    Thank you!

I don't have Community Settings as an option. I only see Edit Page, Edit Navigation, and Site Options.

I apologize for the confusion. I got the notice that "community settings" also not live until we connect the community to the website in March.

    Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your help in migrating these events over!

As of early February, CSTA Washington had three events affected by this mail:

3/5/2025 Quarterly Open Membership Meeting,  https://washington.csteachers.org/Events/csta-washington-quarterly-open-membership-meeting-mar-2025

3/15/2025 CSTA Washington Physical Computing Workshop 2025, https://washington.csteachers.org/Events/wacsta-physical-computing-workshop-2025

4/26/2025 FUTURE: Foundations for Understanding Technology, Uniting Resources for Educators, https://washington.csteachers.org/Events/future-foundations-for-understanding-technology-uniting-resources-for-educators

All three of these are set up so that they are free to both paid members and non-members.   Will registration by non-members be the same after the transition?  For both the Physical Computing Workshop and the FUTURE seminar, we need to charge both members and non-members the same (and decided to make it free) because they are largely funded by other organizations.

For the Physical Computing Workshop and the FUTURE Seminar, will the URLS for the registration page listed above be the same after the transition?  We have already distributed other marrketing materials that utilize these URLs so if they will change, we want to act now.

Also, CSTA Washington is planning to mail its March newsletter on Mar 3 or 4 using MemberNova.   Will this be affected at all by the switchover?   Will non-paid members also receive this mailing?  This newsletter will contain info about Unified Membership.  Yes, we know we will be losing this content after the switchover to Higher Logic.

Thank you for all your help in these challenging times.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Ashley,

On the about us section, can we make that colored for the chapters?  I don't see it taking away from the CSTA block if it is to remain colored instead of forced BW.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ashley,

The Philippine chapter shares LA, Utah, and New Jersey's issue, and I see your note about the connection happening this month.

As we have events coming up already in MemberNova - with one on March 14. Is it safe to assume Membernova work for us until the switch happens?  Transition questions :-)

    Hey Ashley,

Our sit has gone live and I do not have access to the Community Settings still.  When will that feature be turned on?  There are currently events on our page that got migrated over that are incorrect.  I want to be sure to fix them ASAP.

I also am stuck on blogs.  I do not have the option to create a blog in my CREATE button in the top right corner.

I also have the same "Community Settings" problem and don't see the option to create blogs or events.

I feel this will negatively affect attendance at our upcoming PD sessions and Annual Meeting.

Thank you for working dilligently on getting this issue solved.

    Hi Ashley!

Thanks for navigating us through all of these changes.

I now see the Community Settings and the ability to create events.

However, I'm stuck when trying to send out a bulletin/newsletter. I see how to email members, but all I can do is send somewhat stylized text inside of a non-customizable template. Higher Logic says that they have Smart Newsletters available to all members (https://support.higherlogic.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411858591508-Smart-Newsletter) which could automatically create a newsletter from News or Blogs (https://support.higherlogic.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032694732-View-Create-Blog-Articles), but I also don't see how to create News or Blog posts on our side.

I hope it's as easy as the articles from HL suggest, that both just need to be activated on the admin side. Help?

    Thanks,

    John

I need to know if you ported over our payment information. We have an event we have to make where they make a payment.  I need some guidance on this as soon as possible.

I'm one of the CSTA Oregon chapter leaders and I do not yet have Community Settings as an option on my dashboard.  I do have other Admin options for maintaining our homepage.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

Can someone explain all of the event types? I'm trying to figure out the differences without having to create lots of bogus events in order to see what they look like and who can see them on the website.

Is Full the only type that will publicly display on our website so anyone can see the event?

If I've set up a Community Event and want to change it to be Full (so non-members can see it), is there a way to do that; it doesn't seem to let me right now - it just shows a button to go back to the home page?

I was able to make all events public by changing this setting in the admin panel of the community settings.  Now everyone can see our events.

Thanks Michelle and Vicky for bringing this topic up.

Through some testing, i you can set your site to public so non-members can see events and if the event is set as Full the public can see the event. The best way to do that is to choose "Full" as the event type when you go to set up a new event. The Full event type works, so far, for chapter meeting, community event or professional development or whatever event you plan. Full type just allows you to add in additional type questions for your registrant. For example, if you wan to know what grade they teach or food allergy they have, the additional questions fields allow you to write in any question (up to 10) and determine if you want that question to be optional (included) or a required question. You do not have to fill those out though to set up your event.

Our setting IS Public but if I'm not logged in, I cannot see events.

I can't seem to be able to create an event. I keep getting a message that says "Event data is invalid. Unable to save event." but it does not tell me in which section the data is invalid. I have checked up and down, checked every field, even sign out and in my account, and keep getting the same message. Not sure how to proceed anymore 😔
