2026 CSTA PK12 COMPUTER SCIENCE STANDARDS

Hello! My name is Tenisha Gorman Henry. I live in South Bend, IN and I teach 7th and 8th Grade Science. We do not have a standalone computer science classes and I am responsible for embedding computer science in the curriculum. One of the goals that I have for this year is to incorporate more engaging lessons and gain a deeper understanding of the computer science standards for further implementation.

I started teaching coding in Miami to 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade students last year.  Before that, I worked with elementary students; I did a lot of robotics.  One resource you might find helpful is https://vr.vex.com, where students interact with a virtual robot. It is block coding; the Python version is NOT free.  It has activities like coral reef cleanup that can be part of a science lesson.  You can also use the robot to conduct scientific investigations.  For instance, how does changing the velocity of the robot change how the robot behaves?  Scratch is also great for creating stories based on what they are learning in science https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/?tutorial=getStarted ...I hope you have a GREAT year!
